Electronic Monitoring Questions, Answered
Straight answers about GPS ankle monitors, alcohol monitoring, house arrest equipment and how to start a program.
What electronic monitoring equipment does ERA provide?
ERA supplies GPS ankle monitors (Geosatis ODIN-i V7, Omnilink OM500 and Buddi Smart Tag), domestic violence victim notification (Buddi Clip and the Omnilink Advocate app), SCRAM continuous alcohol monitoring in limited areas, and BI SL3 remote breath testing.
Who does ERA work with?
Bail bond agents, courts, counties, pretrial and probation programs, and monitoring service providers. ERA was formed by four national bail-only insurance companies to serve their agents and the entire bail industry.
Does ERA serve my state?
ERA is based in Coral Springs, Florida and supports monitoring programs across the United States. SCRAM continuous alcohol monitoring is available in limited areas, so call (954) 703-6033 to confirm availability where you are.
How much does GPS ankle monitoring cost?
The Bail Tracker program for low-risk offenders tracks defendants 24/7 for as little as $3.99 per day. Pricing for other devices and programs depends on the equipment and volume. Contact ERA for a quote.
Can a bail bond agent offer ankle monitoring?
Yes. ERA's turn key package includes how-to-start and sales presentations, sample proposals for general, jail and county programs, and defendant forms and agreements, plus online hardware and software training and offender pay program assistance.
What is the difference between GPS monitoring and house arrest?
Traditional house arrest confirms a person is home during set hours. GPS monitoring tracks location everywhere, around the clock, and can enforce inclusion zones, exclusion zones and curfews. Some devices combine both: the SCRAM CAM bracelet adds house arrest curfew monitoring, and the Omnilink OM500 pairs with an RF beacon to verify in-home location. Read more in GPS Monitoring vs. Traditional House Arrest.
What is a moving exclusion zone?
A moving exclusion zone follows a protected person instead of staying at a fixed address. The victim carries a small device or a smartphone app, and the victim and law enforcement are alerted when the monitored participant comes within a preset distance. See victim notification monitoring.
How does SCRAM continuous alcohol monitoring work?
The SCRAM CAM bracelet is worn on the ankle 24/7 and samples perspiration every 30 minutes to test for alcohol. Results upload automatically through the base station to the SCRAMNET web platform, which reports alcohol events, obstructions and tampering.
Is the equipment waterproof?
The Omnilink OM500 is rated IP-68 and IP-69K, which means it is waterproof and submersible. Check each device's data sheet for its exact rating.
